Lubbock High in Amarillo

I cannot believe that this Friday will be the last game of my high school career. It seems like yesterday we were playing Randall and Tascosa. We havnt been happy with the result of the last few games. But most of all we arent happy with how we have represented the Amarillo High Sandies the past couple games. Yes it hurts to know that us seniors only have one more game as a Sandie, but you cant look back and mourne about the past. All we care about is going out with a bang and finish this thing out right! Theyve got talent but so do we. I think we are a better football team in all parts and postions. But we cant underestimate them! Like all games, we need to start out strong and get to a good lead. I want to thank everyone for supporting us this year and for reading my blogs!! Time to strap the helmets, throw on that black and gold jersey on one last time! Lets finish this season on a good note and take it to the Lubbock High Westerners!!!!

Midland High Bulldogs

To start out, this weeks weather was terrible. Cold, wet, rainy, fields flooded the whole nine yards! But we didnt let that affect us. Even though we nearly froze our tails off we still practiced. We knew how important this week's game was and had the mindset to do whatever we had to do to prepare for it. And we did!

Midland is a very talented team with a lot of speed and size. We can make up for those qualities by playing this game the way the Amarillo High Sandies are known to play! Our goal is to come out with more intensity and more passion, from go to whistle. Just like we did last week with Monterey, we need to carry over that same amount of hustle, physicality and mental focus. I told the seniors at a meeting today, "Seniors, yall are garanteed four more games. Now whether yall want to make playoffs and play more games in the post season is up to this game. Win this game and we are in perfect position to make playoffs!" Time to take it to them from the very start and send them Bulldogs back home with their tails between their legs!

AHS 30 MONTEREY 19

Woo! I dont know how many more of these close games I can take! This game was so huge for us as far as playoffs go. We heard it from coach all week long, "Seniors if you want to make playoffs, you must win this one!" We won this one, now next week is more important.

I cannot help but tell you how nervous I was before this game. So many things to think about, playoffs, snaps, big defensive front, the list could go on. But as soon as I strapped that helmet on all those feelings went away. After that first score on our first series I dont think Ive ever been so fired up this year. Our past few games starting out slow offensively I wanted to open up with a bang! And thats exactly what we did when Marcus Stockton hooked up with a 52 yard TD to big Benny Shepard who had some moves all game. And the deffense! They sure made a point to Monterey that the wishbone(midline) scheme wasnt gonna work on the Sandies! They held them to I dont even know how many fieldgoals all game. Four fieldgoals and one TD. Even though it was hott and the lights werent on we were ready to play! We went into the 4th quarter down 19 to 16. We knew we had to get something going. It was do or die! All that work we did all week, all the continuals, all the sprints after practice came down to this last quarter. After tough running by Jacob Burton, Thomas Fraser and Heath Herrington and some good pass plays we found ourselve on the goal line. After some play confusion with half the offense running the wrong play Marcus Stockton somehow found Dalton Koller for a 5 yard pass! One more touchdown to go. Now the offense rellied on the defense to hold them. And they did!! Just like they had played all game. Big hits, and hard playing they held them to another field goal! Now to put the final nail in the coffin. We drove it down the field again and scored with a 16 yard pass to Will Bryant who did a great job holding on to the ball. Defense held them once again to give the ball to AHS with minutes to go! We ran the ball a few times to give us some first downs and keep that clock running! Then we got into the good ole victory formation to close it up. After the toughest week of practice it was all worth it. The deffense played awesome! Now the next one is just as big if not bigger. Lets rest this weekend and fuel up the body and get ready for the Midland High Bulldogs!!

Sandstorm in Lubbock, TX

Time for the Lubbock Monterey Plainsmen...For the past few years they have been a team full of talent and size. Now im not saying they dont have either this year, they are a great team. But lets just say that theyre about the smallest theyve been for a long time. If there is a time where we can capitalize and match them size wise, it would be this year. Its just a matter of who wants it more.

This game we will be focusing on dominating the line of scrimmage and stopping that midline offense scheme they run. It has always been very tricky to stop and they run it very well. I know Ive probably said this before but this week of practice was the hardest week of practice, not just physically but mentally as well. I cannot tell you how many reps we ran in a single practice. And if we didnt execute it right the first time than we ran it until it was played right. No matter how much my body told me that it was tired this week, I honestly think we are more prepared than ever. We plan to redeem ourselves from last years embarassing performance. Staying focused and intense one play at a time from go to whistle. Now this game will be a little different because it is a 4:00 game. There will be no Friday night lights, and it will be hot. Coach says it will be just like an afternoon practice and its up to us to get fired up. We cannot come out to the start of this game flat like we have been. We must take it to them from the very start get the early lead and play every quarter like the score is 0-0. Time to play this game the way the Amarillo High Sandies play it!

Back to the Basics!

1-2 in District....Not exactly the start we were hoping for. But we took this week to settle down and get focused again. By week, normally a time where teams take some time off and dont do to much. We took this time to go back to the basics, such as form tackling, proper blocking technique and good conditioning. Considering the fact that we did not do these very well in our last game. Practices were pretty tough. The first half of practice consisted of the defense doing tackling drills and the offensive line blocking each other to the point of vomiting. Haha you would have thought it was two-a-days all over again! All and all I feel good about the work we got done this week. I really think we got one on someone and took a step further than everyone this week. The weekend feels good, stacking back up on the calories and working this lactic acid out of the muscles. Time to put some more fuel into the body and get ready for San Angelo Central!

50th Year Belongs To The Sandies!!

14,500 fans in the stands, Amarillo High vs. Tascosa, 50th anniversary, beautiful friday night lights, this is what you play football for. You couldnt ask for anything better to set up that night at Dick Bivins Stadium. I knew it was going to be a good night.

"You will remember this game for the rest of your life. Make it one everyone will remember!" Those were the last words that came out of my mouth when i left the locker room. I will never forget the sight of walking out to that coin toss seeing all the fans and those four fellas in black uniforms with the letter "T" on their helmets. The team had spent their whole football careers for this moment. We were so fired up we couldnt think straight. Sure we were down 14 points early but the thought of panicing or giving up never crossed our mind. Coach Theissen always tells us that when you play hard, good things happen. And those plays can be game changers. After Ivan Casteneda hustled down that muffed punt the momentum came our way. The tough running of Thomas Fraser and Jacob Burton led to TDs that had us all fired up! Then with Marcus Stockton sending a rocket to Big Benny Shepard for a 70 yard touchdown pass. Now we were clicking. After we got a safety on a punt snap into the endzone, kicker Austin Sasser gave us a 35 yard field goal sealing the first half 26-14 AHS.

Our goal coming into the second half was to drive it down their throats and make them quit. Thats exactly what we did! We grinded out a 67 yard scoring drive with nothing but tough runs from our two stud running backs, Thomas Fraser and Jacob Burton. Seniors Dean Homen, Matt Mackay, Jared Webster, Mason Dudley, Trevor Guston and Graydon Wyatt led the dominating defense. And juniors Blair Dickey, Luke Wilson, and Brady Burdett refused to let any sort of passes behind them. Everyone played their butt off. Reciever Dalton Koller had a huge 57 yard catch breaking a tackle and almost taking it to the house! Marcus Stockton with his elusive style was making plays all over the place with TD runs of 1 and 3 yards. Our offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage for the rest of the game (Nick Wheeler, Brady Fincher, Dalton "Beef" Carter, Martin Herrera ,and Austin Smith). All and all the team came together, played their hearts out to rally up 40 unanswered points to give us the ball game. That feeling of accomplishment, giving it everything you have spread across the team that night. It was Amarillo High's 700th football win! What a better way to top that off with a win over the Rebels. A great fought out battle between both teams. We put in the hard extra work and recieved a GREAT paycheck!

Rivals Clash!!!

Coming off last weeks game was tough. Pretty much everything that could go wrong went wrong. We bounced back with a positive, fired up attitude!! And what better way to than to prepare for Tascosa!!

You dont have to worry about our team being intense and ready to play this week. The 50th anniversary between Amarillo High and Tascosa! The response from the team when you say the words " Amarillo High vs. Tascosa ", is no less than any yelling chant that can get a group of guys fired up. Practice this week was great. We had the defense flying to the ball with an urgent fury. And offense was making plays left and right with no hesitation. Our mental focuse was great and our intensity was even better. That is one of our goals for this game is to increase mental focuse therefore decreasing the mistakes. Knowing that this game will be fueled with momentum we have eliminate the big play capability that Tascosa has. Which ever team that has the momentum will get off to the better lead. We will go into this game with the mentality of beating them one play at a time and I can garantee you one thing. This will be a game you wont want to miss. A game so action packed it will leave every seat in the stadium empty. Simply because everyone will be on their feet! Time to lace up the cleats, buckle the armour, and strap them helmets on for some High School Football at its finest!!! Its time to rock and roll!!
